Liaoning Province is located in Northeast China, bordering the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea to the south, facing North Korea across the Yalu River to the southeast, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Hebei Province to the north, and Jilin Province to the east. The total area of Liaoning Province is approximately 148700 square kilometers, with a permanent population of approximately 41.97 million people.


The capital of Liaoning Province is Shenyang, with a total of 14 prefecture level cities under its jurisdiction, including Dalian, Anshan, Fushun, Benxi, Dandong, Jinzhou, Yingkou, Fuxin, Liaoyang, Panjin, Tieling, Chaoyang, and Huludao. Among them, Shenyang and Dalian are sub provincial cities.


Liaoning Province has a strong industrial foundation and is one of China's old industrial bases. The industrial categories are complete and the system is comprehensive, covering 40 of the 41 major industrial categories in the national economy. Liaoning has significant advantages in the fields of equipment manufacturing, raw material industry, and defense technology industry. Especially in the fields of CNC machine tools, industrial robots, power transmission and transformation equipment, metallurgy and mining, petrochemical general equipment, general aviation, automobiles, and shipbuilding, they play an important role nationwide. In addition, Liaoning has a profound industrial background and technological advantages in fields such as new materials, fine chemicals, intelligent equipment manufacturing, and semiconductor chips.


Liaoning Province has complete infrastructure and a developed comprehensive transportation system. Liaoning is the first in the country to achieve full access to highways in all land counties, and its railway and highway network density ranks among the top in the country. As of the end of 2023, the operating mileage of railways in the province is 6302 kilometers, including 2213.8 kilometers of high-speed railways; The total length of highways in operation is 4409 kilometers. Liaoning has six ports including Dalian Port, Yingkou Port, Dandong Port, Jinzhou Port, Panjin Port, and Huludao Port. In 2023, the port's cargo throughput was 760 million tons, and the container throughput was 12.9 million TEUs. Liaoning's airport network is also very developed, with a total of 8 civil aviation airports including Shenyang, Dalian, and Anshan, opening 453 routes and connecting 128 domestic cities and 20 overseas cities.


The gross domestic product of Liaoning Province in the first three quarters of 2024 was 2254.99 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.9%. The overall economic operation of the province is stable, showing a positive development trend.


In terms of industries, the added value of the primary industry in Liaoning Province was 154.51 billion yuan, an increase of 4.8%; The added value of the secondary industry was 887.64 billion yuan, an increase of 5.1%; The added value of the tertiary industry was 1.21284 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.7%. The output of major agricultural products in the province has maintained growth, industrial production is running smoothly, and over 70% of industries have achieved growth.


Liaoning Province's economic strength has also shown outstanding performance nationwide. In 2023, the gross domestic product of Liaoning Province was 3.02094 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%. Among them, the added value of the primary industry accounts for 8.8% of the regional GDP, the added value of the secondary industry accounts for 38.8%, and the added value of the tertiary industry accounts for 52.4%.


In addition, as an economic hub in Liaoning Province, Dalian will achieve a regional GDP of 875.29 billion yuan in 2023, ranking first among all cities in Liaoning Province.
